Chyanne Vanwinkle is a top female athlete at J.P. Taravella High School and a member of the boys’ bowling team, which is currently tops in the Coral Springs area.
Bowling is Vanwinkle’s passion, but there was little interest at Taravella for a girls’ team. So, coach Greg Mason offered her an opportunity to compete on the boys’ team. She accepted and was among the top competitors at Bowlero Tamarac, where the Coral Springs area teams meet.
Vanwinkle, who lives in Margate, is a sophomore at Taravella. She has a 3.5 grade point average; her favorite subject is math.
“I love bowling because it is a fun sport. I want to continue working on my game and improving,” she said.
The Taravella bowling team has had the best overall performance at Bowlero Tamarac, and Vanwinkle has played an essential part in its success.
Mason said, “She is a key player on our team and has been very good in the Baker games. I expect her to continue to get better.”
