Teens interested in learning about personal finance and securing their first job may want to attend the My Money Camp.
The camp runs Monday, July 28, through Thursday, July 31. Students aged 13 and 14 will attend from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and those aged 15-17 will attend from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Courtyard by Marriott Coral Springs, located at 6200 North University Drive. The cost to attend is $199, and students can register at MyMoneyCamp.com.
The camp will be led by Jamie Simmons, who has taught financial literacy at J.P. Taravella High School for over 30 years.
“It is all about personal finance and helping students get a better idea of what is going on with their financial future. We talk about getting a job, the cost of living, mutual funds, and Roth IRAs,” said Simmons.
He shows students strategies on how to approach the job market and how one can become wealthy by establishing a strong financial plan and good habits in high school. “A high school senior who begins putting money into a Roth IRA can eventually become a millionaire,” said Simmons.
Other topics will include the cost of things, career choices and salaries, budgeting, saving and investing, stocks and interest rates, the proper use of credit cards, and avoiding life-ruining debt.
