Max Lazar pitches for the Coral Springs High School baseball team. {CSHS Baseball}
Lazar came in to pitch in the 10th inning and inherited a runner on second base, but did not allow a run to score. He began the inning with a strikeout of Jarren Durran before getting Alex Bregman to ground out and strikeout Roman Anthony to end the inning. The Phillies went on to win in the home half with a winning run scoring on catcher’s interference. This was only the second time in Major League history that a game ended on catcher’s interference, the last happening in 1971 in a game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds.
Lazar, a 2017 graduate from CSHS, played two years of high school baseball and dominated as a two-way player. He went 15-4, with an ERA of .81 and hit .357. Initially set to attend Florida Atlantic University, Lazar was picked by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 11th round in 2017. He pitched in the Brewers’ organization until 2023, before signing a minor league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies.
He won 18 games in the minor leagues and was called up for the first time during the 2024 season. Lazar has gone on to pitch in 18 games this year and has an ERA of 3.18. He has struck out 16 batters in 22.1 innings, working as a reliever.
