A powerful Holocaust education experience is coming to Coral Springs, city officials said Tuesday.
The Hate Ends Now: Cattle Car Exhibit will be on display at City Hall, 9500 W. Sample Rd., on Friday, January 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The exhibit allows visitors to interact with a World War II–era replica cattle car like the ones used by the Nazis to transport Jews and other targeted groups to death camps and concentration camps during the Holocaust.
Visitors can also view an accompanying display featuring historical artifacts from WWII and atrocities associated with the Holocaust, during which the Nazis murdered some six million Jews.
The replica cattle car features a 360-degree, immersive, 20-minute presentation that educates participants about the Holocaust and the dangers of antisemitic hatred and racism. The experience is meant to bring awareness and spur dialogue among participants of all ages.
Organizers of the national traveling exhibit said they are “committed to encouraging people to reflect on the depths of evil while inspiring thoughtful conversations about genocide and indifference as they participate in The Cattle Car exhibit.”
“We also want to motivate individuals to get involved in preventing hate crimes and maintaining a sense of unity with each other,” the organizers said.
In addition to the cattle car exhibit, visitors will be able to view a rare collection of 25 original Holocaust artifacts, including a prisoner uniform, shoes, identification cards, and currency that Jews were forced to use in Nazi-controlled Jewish ghettos. Participants will move between the cattle car and a guided tour of the artifact exhibit, to be led by a trained docent educator.
There is no cost to attend the exhibit. However, advanced registration is required as space is limited. Visitors may register online here.
