Coral Glades star wide receiver Josh Guerin becomes the first player from this year’s varsity football team to sign to play college football in the fall at the United States Naval Academy.
As excited he is to compete at the next level, Guerin says being the first division one player under Coach Thomas is an honor.
“As a player and student, you truly see how hard he works for his kids every day trying to make us better men and set us up for success,” said Guerin. “Nobody in that building works harder than he does, and I’m glad to have been able to build a close relationship with him and be able to succeed under his tutelage.”
Guerin played one year on the varsity team, helping the Jaguars reach the State Playoffs for the first time in school history after going 6-3. The senior caught 27 catches for 359 yards and contributed on special teams earning himself a spot in the Broward County Athletic Association All-Star Game.
He previously played for Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School in ninth grade and two years at Monsignor Pace in Miami for his sophomore and junior season.
After receiving interest from many schools, Guerin felt the coaching staff at for the Navy team was amazing and people that would make him a better person. Plus, his father had the chance to serve four years in the Marines.
“I’m so happy for Josh to be my first player at Coral Glades to go, Division 1,” said Head Coach Cam Thomas. “I think he is going to be great at the Naval Academy and has so much potential.”
Guerin played several sports at ten and ended up sticking with football. While his goal is to end up in the NFL, a degree from the Naval Academy is the ultimate goal for his future.
Next fall, he will be joining one of the most respected programs in the country. The Navy went 4-8 last year and will have his first chance to compete against the Army in December.
