A man was arrested early and charged with kidnapping, battery, and false imprisonment after allegedly sexually assaulting his neighbor in an apartment complex elevator.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department report, the incident occurred at approximately 1:04 a.m. on February 16. According to the victim, as she was walking from the parking lot to the elevator of her apartment building and entering the elevator, her neighbor, identified as the suspect, Djash Denis, 29, of Coral Springs, also entered.
While the specific apartment complex where the assault took place is not named in the report, it does note Denis lives in an apartment complex located near the 2500 block of Riverside Drive.
According to the police report, the victim noticed that the suspect’s belt was unbuckled, to which Denis allegedly commented that he was embarrassed she had to see him that way. Moments later, he reportedly placed his hand around her neck, pressed her against the elevator wall, and began kissing her.
The victim told CSPD that Denis continued kissing her neck until the elevator doors opened. As she attempted to exit, he allegedly pulled her back into the elevator and resumed his assault. When she managed to leave again, he reportedly followed her, pinning her against a wall outside the elevator, and pulled up her shirt, kissing her breasts.
The victim told officers she was able to break free, but as she reached her apartment, Denis allegedly grabbed her hand and attempted to pull her into his apartment across the hall. The victim resisted and ultimately escaped into her residence, where she locked the door and called 911.
Responding officers located Denis in his apartment, where he voluntarily stepped outside to speak with them. According to the police report upon an interview, he immediately stated, “I haven’t attacked nobody.”
Records show Denis eventually admitted to seeing his neighbor in the elevator and vaguely recalled trying to kiss her. He also stated that he had been drinking heavily throughout the day and could not remember the full details of the incident.
Denis was placed under arrest and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
