A man faces charges of sexual battery and molestation of a minor after a victim alleged years of abuse.
According to the victim’s statements provided to Coral Springs Police Department investigators, the victim alleged that on multiple occasions between May 2017 and August 31 of 2019, Jose Eduardo Molina Ortez, 31, of Coral Springs, sexually abused her.
The victim alleged that Ortez, who was staying with her family during the assaults, would abuse her when her mother was not home.
According to the arrest report, Ortez would abuse her in a bedroom under the guise of playing “Doctor,” and the assaults would often happen while Ortez’s wife was in the kitchen cooking. The victim told investigators that this abuse routinely included him orally and digitally penetrating her vagina underneath her underwear and forcing her to touch his penis.
The victim told investigators that she waited years to report the abuse because she didn’t think anyone would believe her. She was too little to report such serious allegations against a grown-up considered a close family friend.
When asked by investigators how she felt when Ortez moved from her home, the victim replied: “Happy because everything was going to stop.”
Following the victim’s statement to investigators, CSPD asked the victim to make a controlled call to Ortez. During the call, the victim told Ortez she was struggling academically and was in counseling to help with her emotional state due to his abuse.
Ortez initially adamantly denied the allegations but agreed to meet the victim to discuss what had happened.
The arrest record shows the victim wore an audio and video recording device to the in-person meeting with Ortez. Once together, the victim is heard on tape telling Ortez she needed to know the truth about what happened so that her therapist can adequately treat and evaluate her mental state.
During the conversation, Ortez can be heard admitting, “Something happened,” and further instructs the victim to tell her therapist the truth.
“Confess that it happened, and it’s a reality,” he said before telling the victim he was set to move back to El Salvador.
Following his taped confessions to the victim, Ortez was taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
