Marly Metayer has filed to run for the Coral Springs city commission seat previously held by her daughter, the late Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer, joining four other candidates vying for the position in the November election, records show.
According to the city’s election campaign finance portal, the other candidates who have submitted qualifying paperwork to the city clerk’s office are William (Bill) Capplis, Adeline Darius, Erick Nyatenya, and Terry Williams Edden. Voters will head to the polls on November 3 to decide who will serve the two-plus years remaining on Nancy Metayer’s Seat 3 term.
Metayer was found dead on April 1, fatally shot by her husband, Stephen Bowen, who is charged with premeditated murder, authorities said.
Additional information was not immediately available about her mother’s candidacy.
The city commission has discussed the possibility of appointing a former commissioner to temporarily occupy the vacant seat ahead of the November vote, but no action has been taken. The city’s qualifying period for Seat 3 candidates opens at noon on June 8 and closes at noon on June 12.
Nancy Metayer made history as the first Black and Haitian American woman to serve on the commission, having first won the seat in 2020. She won re-election in 2024.
