A renowned Venezuelan artist who studied at FAU is set to showcase her art in Coral Springs.
The Coral Springs Museum of Art is hosting the opening reception for the Alejandra Abad exhibition on Friday, January 17, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The event, titled TRES: Garden of Memories, Lexicon de Plantas, & Water State, is free and open to the public, with a special members-only preview hour from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The exhibition showcases three interconnected projects that explore themes of memory, nature, and community through Abad’s signature blend of Magical Realism and interdisciplinary techniques.
Attendees will experience Garden of Memories, an installation created using various materials to create drawings and cut-outs to assemble animations of memories relating to Alejandra’s grandfather’s garden in Venezuela.
Also featured is Lexicon de Plantas, which features a typewritten poem by the artist’s grandfather integrated into an audiovisual installation, combining text, sculpture, and animated motifs.
Lastly, Water State presents an ongoing experimental animation exploring the fluid nature of water through collages and audiovisual elements inspired by South Florida’s identity as a refuge.
Alejandra Abad is an interdisciplinary artist and educator known for her playful storytelling incorporating fragmentation, folklore, and mythology. Her art is known for blending analog and digital techniques and exploring themes through layered, abstract, and light-infused environments.
