Broward County School Board candidate Nicole Morst has received the 2026 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction, recognizing her support for gun violence prevention and school safety initiatives.
The distinction is awarded to candidates who advocate policies to reduce gun violence and promote safer communities.
“Too many students, families, and educators have experienced the lasting impact of school violence,” Morst said in a statement. “I believe every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and protected when they walk into a classroom.”
Morst said she supports balancing responsible gun ownership with “practical, common-sense measures” designed to improve school and community safety.
“As a mom and an advocate for Broward students, I believe school safety must always come first,” she said. “No student should ever sit in a classroom wondering if they are safe.”
Morst said she is honored to receive the distinction and remains committed to creating safe learning environments for students.
She has also received endorsements from Broward County School Board members Debbi Hixon and Dr. Jeff Holness, Coral Springs commissioners Joe McHugh and Josh Simmons, North Lauderdale Mayor Samson Borgelin, and Margate Vice Mayor Anthony Caggiano.
Morst also acknowledged the support of Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer.
A longtime Broward public school volunteer and parent advocate, Morst has served in leadership roles at both the school and district levels, including the North Area Advisory Council, District Advisory Council, and School Advisory Council.
Morst faces challenger Dr. Sharry Kimmel in the election held on Aug. 18, 2026. Current School Board candidate Lori Alhadeff, who does not seek reelection, has endorsed Kimmel.
