The Ramblewood Middle School band program earned additional honors at the Music Performance Assessment at Monarch High School on March 19 and 20.
The Honors Band and the Symphonic Band earned straight MPA superior ratings. The bands were evaluated on music fundamentals, rhythm, and accuracy.
Longtime band director John Nista was very proud of the band’s success and said the students worked hard for it.
“They came in the early morning before school to practice and stayed late to practice. I give the credit to the students. They love music, and they work hard together,” said Nista. After the assessment, the bands, orchestra, and chorus members went to Disney World together.
Leyla Asar, a trumpet and oboe player, loves being in the band. “It is enjoyable. I love music and enjoy being a part of the honor band,” she said.
Asar said it takes much work to be successful in band. “We have a two-week band camp during the summer and practice a lot. We work together, and I have made many friends in the band,” she said.
Asar plans to join the J.P. Taravella High School band next year.
Brody Leao is a trombone and percussion player who loves being in the Ramblewood band. “Music is my passion. I love to practice and perform music. I will play at American Heritage Schools next year,” he said.
Ramblewood Middle includes the Honor band, which is selective and has talented and experienced musicians. The Symphonic band is also selective with gifted musicians. The beginning band consists primarily of sixth graders learning the basics of playing instruments. Ramblewood has two jazz bands that practice after school and have dedicated performers.
The jazz bands will have their MPA on April 25 at Cypress Bay High School. Nista will retire at the end of the year after 43 years of teaching and 28 years at Ramblewood.
The Ramblewood bands will give their final performance for the year at J.P. Taravella High on May 23.
