Next Stop Broadway celebrates two decades on the stage with their summer camp for young artists.
Each session culminates in a fully designed Broadway-style production. Every camper participates, and campers are split into age-appropriate groups to hone their singing, dancing, and acting skills.
Artistic Director Cynthia O’Brien said the youth camp for children aged 7 to 13 would have three sessions with a production each. The summer will start with “Descendants: The Musical” (June 13 – July 1), followed by “The SpongeBob Musical” (July 5 – July 22) and “Frozen Junior” (July 25 – August 12).
Intended for artists aged 14 and older, the teen theatre project this year is “The Addams Family” which runs from July 5 to August 6.
The schedules include dress-up and movie days, spirit rallies, and talent shows.
“We are back for our 20th summer and happy to bring some fabulous productions to the community,” said O’Brien, adding that the center is gearing up for another fun and safe season, with all Covid-19 precautions in place.
She said the center has become a part of the community, with people recognizing the staff and looking forward to summer productions.
“Coral Springs and Parkland are a family-oriented area and a great place to be. Now our former students return to bring their children to the camp. It is just wonderful,” said O’Brien.
Next Stop Broadway Communications Director Randy Koral said all residents are invited to see the summer performances, with two showtimes available on Thursdays at 11 a.m. and Fridays at 6 p.m. “The Addams Family” teen production premiers on Saturday, August 6, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
“Even families who don’t have kids in the productions can still see the performances. We hope the community will come and check out the shows,” he added.
O’Brien confirmed that the center does live up to its name, with “too many former campers to mention” who are now in Broadway musicals, Netflix shows, and entertainment projects in Las Vegas, LA, and New York.
It all takes place at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts. Tuition is $870 per session for the Youth Camp and $1075 for the Teen Theatre Project. Online registration opens on Wednesday, February 9, at 11 a.m. The parents only need to pay down $99 to reserve a space. The offer ends on May 7, when tuition is due in full.
The camp offers a lunch program and extended care options.
