A longtime Coral Springs Police dog has died, the department said.

K-9 Cesar, a German Shepard who served on the police force from 2012 until 2020, was just 13 months old when the department assigned him a partner in Officer Timothy Coker. Police did not say how the retired K-9 died.

During his eight-year career, Cesar apprehended 157 criminals and had 351 narcotics finds, police said.

According to the department, Cesar’s favorite toy was a tennis ball, and his favorite treats were Old Mother Hubbard dog biscuits.

German Shepherds are one of the most commonly used dogs for law enforcement because they are intelligent, strong, and have a good sense of smell.
