The Riverside Drive Bridge Rehabilitation Project will begin Monday, Dec. 18, in Coral Springs, according to Broward County.
According to the county’s Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division, the project is a “major bridge rehabilitation” of the structure over the West Outfall Drainage Canal. The project site is on Riverside Drive, about a quarter-mile east of Coral Springs Drive.
Work on the project will conclude in June 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions or weather delays, according to the county. HBMD will keep the bridge sidewalk open for students and pedestrians until Saturday, Dec. 23 when schools close for winter break.
Lane closures will occur for less than a month to allow for waterproofing and resurfacing of the bridge deck, officials said. A minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times. Access to businesses, residences, and sidewalks will be maintained, according to the county.
“The recommended repairs identified by the Florida Department of Transportation will enhance the longevity of the structure by using an innovative deck strengthening design and construction method developed by HBMD,” the county said in a news release.
The new bridge repair method minimizes construction impacts on the public by mainly working on the underside of the bridge, according to the county.
The project is being paid for with gas tax funds, according to the county.
