A road rage incident in Coral Springs on Thursday afternoon led to a felony arrest after a man allegedly brandished a firearm during a heated exchange with another driver.
According to arrest records, at 3:30 p.m. on January 23, Coral Springs Police Department officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of North University Drive after receiving a report of a road rage incident involving a firearm.
According to the victim, he had been in an altercation near the site of a car accident with a driver, later identified as Eric Johnston, 64, of Coral Springs.
CSPD records show the victim stated that Johnston swerved in front of his vehicle, cutting him off, and sped off before stopping at a red light. When the victim pulled up next to Johnston, he reported seeing Johnston making an obscene gesture before allegedly retrieving a firearm from his vehicle’s center console and pointing it in the victim’s direction.
Detectives from the Coral Springs Police Department’s Strategic Enforcement Team quickly located Johnston in the Bank of America parking lot at 3200 North University Drive. Johnston, who was driving the vehicle, which matched the description provided by the victim, was taken into custody and allowed to provide his side of the story but declined.
Johnston was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
