Peaches and Rocky {Broward County Animal Care}
A senior English bulldog mix looking for a second chance and a shy but affectionate terrier mix are this week’s featured adoptable pets at Broward County Animal Care.
Rocky
Rocky, a 10-year-old neutered male English bulldog mix weighing 48 pounds, is searching for a family after a series of unfortunate returns to the shelter.
Originally adopted in 2019, Rocky lived happily in a home until earlier this year, when his owner was forced to surrender him because of landlord restrictions. He was later adopted again but returned after snapping at a resident cat that approached him while he was eating.
Shelter staff describes Rocky as friendly, affectionate, and eager to please. Known for his stocky build and signature bulldog waddle, Rocky already knows how to sit on command for treats and appears to be housebroken, which makes the transition to a new home easier.
Because he is protective of his food around other animals, Rocky is best suited as the only pet in the household.
Rocky is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. As a Pet Project-sponsored pet, his adopter will receive free food, vaccinations, monthly preventatives and reduced-cost veterinary care for the rest of his life.
Peaches
Also waiting for a home is Peaches, a 5-year-old, 55-pound female American Staffordshire terrier mix who arrived at the shelter as a stray on March 28.
Shelter staff says Peaches has become increasingly stressed by kennel life, making it difficult for potential adopters to see her true personality. While initially shy, she quickly warms up to people and enjoys affection, treats and long walks.
Peaches has also participated in Broward County Animal Care’s Broward Buddies Dog Day Out program, where she has performed well during outings away from the shelter.
Officials hope a patient adopter will give Peaches the opportunity to relax and thrive in a home environment. Her adoption fee has been waived, with adopters responsible only for the $25 Broward County pet registration fee. She will be spayed, vaccinated against rabies and microchipped before going home.
Rocky, Peaches and many other adoptable animals are available at Broward County Animal Care, 2400 SW 42nd St. in Fort Lauderdale. The shelter is open daily for adoptions from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
All pets adopted from Broward County Animal Care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Adopters pay only the $25 Broward County registration tag fee. Residents can view all available pets by visiting PetAdoptions.Broward.org.
