High school baseball teams across Coral Springs celebrated Senior Night while closing out the regular season while others were selected to all-star games.
Coral Glades honored Josh Ruiz, Caleb Kohnert, Shawn Whoriskey, and Sebastian Duran prior to its matchup against Monarch High School. The Jaguars followed the ceremony with a 7-2 victory, improving to 14 wins on the season. Zack Krey led the offense with a home run and three RBIs, while Ruiz added two RBIs. Jason Lincoln and Whoriskey also drove in runs. Diego Gonzalez earned the win on the mound, tossing five innings without allowing an earned run. Coral Glades now turns its attention to the District Tournament, where it will face Western High School on Tuesday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m.
J.P. Taravella also celebrated its senior class before earning an 11-1 win over Fort Lauderdale High School. The seniors recognized included Nico Rosenstock, Landen Booke, Shane Thompson, Cooper Poirier, Jake Miller, Adamo Vellucci, Julian Classen, and Christian Moncada. On the field, Plante was dominant out of the bullpen, throwing four scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Miller and Clovens Challenge each recorded two RBIs, while Jeremiah McFarland, Classen, Alex Visual, and Nicols Visual each drove in a run. The Trojans finished the regular season 11-12 and will face Marjory Stoneman Douglas in the district semifinals on Tuesday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m.
Coral Springs High School honored a large senior class of 16 players: Aiden Roy, Angelo Painter, Jordan Guzman, Ryan Guthrie, Gabriel De La Cruz, Marcus Crespo, Luis Comella, Arom Cuberos, Brandon Matlock, Alain Ducasse, Corbin Verlsteffen, Manny Torres, Dallas Searcy, Diego Avila, Jayden Nunez, and Adrian Sosa. The Colts capped the night with an 11-4 win over American Heritage High School. De La Cruz, Comella, and Searcy each drove in two runs. Roy started on the mound and pitched two innings, while Ducasse added four strong innings of relief without allowing an earned run.
Coral Springs Charter also recognized its seniors—Carter Hayden, Vincent Campbell, Rodney Chung, Edward Canard, and Easton Viveros—during a 6-5 loss to Melbourne High School. The Panthers entered the week on a three-game winning streak with victories over West Boca Raton, Boca Raton, and West Broward, but dropped their final two games against Florida Christian and Pembroke Pines Charter. They earned the No. 2 seed in the District Tournament and will face the winner of the American Heritage-Glades Central semifinal.
Miller and Classen were reach selected to represent J.P. Taravella in the High School Baseball Network All-Star Game as they are each hitting over .300 this year. Miller has hit two home runs while the duo have combined for 27 RBIs. Viveros and Canard will compete from Coral Springs Charter as Viveros is a Florida International l University commit, who leads the teams with a .391 batting average. He he has a home run and 12 extra base hits along with nine RBIs. Canard has pitched in six games and has an ERA of 3.59.
