The final stretch of the softball season is underway, with several programs taking time to honor their seniors while continuing strong play on the field.
Coral Springs Charter entered the week ranked eighth in the state and 49th nationally, and the Panthers backed that up with a dominant 15-0 win over Monarch High School on Thursday. Seniors Gio Gurgel and Leah Rutherford were recognized prior to the game, and Gurgel made a major impact by hitting one of the team’s three home runs. Courtney Wahlbrink also went deep and tossed two hitless innings, while Chloe Koenig added an inside-the-park home run.
Gurgel finished with four RBIs and was a single shy of her second cycle this season. S. Toth contributed with a two-run double as CSC improved to 12-1 on the year.
At Coral Glades, Haleigh Thomas, Addison Schwartzberg, Cameron Marques, Jordin Shurpin, Catalina Monter, Dominque Soto, and Mia Cupo were all recognized. Although both of their games this week were rained out, the Jaguars sit at 7-6 overall and carry a three-game winning streak with recent victories over Cypress Bay, Monarch, and South Plantation.
Coral Springs High School honored seniors Braelyn Perez, Deanna Wray, and Mackenzie Gruber. The Colts currently hold a 5-3-1 record and are coming off a 10-1 win against Hollywood Hills High School. They have four games remaining in the regular season before district tournament play begins.
J.P. Taravella does not feature any seniors this season but has recorded five wins so far. The team is set to face Plantation High School on Monday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m.
