Two women who had stolen exotic whips — or nitrous oxide canisters from a local store were apprehended and face shoplifting charges.
On September 14, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a retail theft and physical altercation at The Hook Up store at 1326 University Drive.
According to records, the incident involved two individuals, one identified as Brianna Garner, 19, of Louisville, Texas, who approached a cashier and inquired about two Exotic Whips whipped cream chargers, each priced at $54.99.
Whipped cream chargers and dispensers contain nitrous oxide and are commonly misused to create inhalant drugs that provide a brief euphoric and extremely dangerous high.
After the cashier retrieved the whips and handed them to the women, Garner, and the other woman looked at each other and fled the store with canisters in hand without attempting to pay.
A bystander who was also shopping inside the store at the time of the incident sprang into action after hearing the cashier shout, “Stop them; they are stealing.”
The bystander recounted to officers how he immediately pursued both women and was able to make a citizen’s arrest of Garner, although injured in the process.
The witness also told officers Garner attempted to bite him during the altercation, causing merchandise to fall on his legs and injure him.
According to multiple witnesses, the other woman pulled up to the scene in a vehicle upon seeing Garner detained. She threatened everyone involved, shouting, “We’re going to come back with straps [guns] when the cops pull up,” before speeding away.
Officers arrived on the scene and interviewed multiple witnesses who confirmed the events, leading to the arrest of Garner, who was still in custody at the time of their arrival.
According to the arrest report, Garner claimed the other woman handed her the can of Exotic Whip, and they fled the store. She also said she couldn’t remember if she left the store with the product because everything happened too quickly.
Garner was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. She was later released after posting a $1,000 bond.
Following the arrest of Garner, CSPD conducted a separate investigation into the whereabouts of her accomplice. A registration check revealed the getaway car was registered to an address near the 8400 block of 46th Drive, where officers could identify and apprehend the driver. She was also placed under arrest.
