Energizing Mariachi music in the air, hints of fresh cilantro fill the room, and bright, welcoming smiles await customers at Coral Springs’ newest restaurant.
After opening a kitchen in Jupiter, the owners quickly realized they needed to open the doors for on-premise dining.
Founder Luz Ma Alatorre was born in Mexico City, where she grew up taking multiple cooking classes with her family. Her grandfather, who lived in Chicago, granted her numerous opportunities to travel to the states. However, it wasn’t until 2015 that she immigrated with her husband and three children to South Florida.
Luz, along with her team Mary Suarez and Ricardo Pulido, is pursuing her American dream and sharing her culture by providing fresh, authentic Mexican cuisine to their new home.
“I love my new community, but try as I might to find the traditional Mexican food I grew up loving; it was nowhere to be found. It was then I knew we needed to show South Florida what it’s been missing,” said Luz.
The food is fresh, vibrant, and deliciosa. The menu includes traditional dishes from across Mexico, like mouthwatering Carne Asada from the north, cheesy Chili Poblano from central Mexico, and for the veggies lovers, the Cochinita tacos from the south.
When pushed for the absolute favorite dish of all, Luz recommends their Pastor — a carefully marinated pork loin prepared traditionally on a spinning top grill, served with cilantro, onions, and pineapple — making their proclaimed King of Tacos.
Before the meal arrives, guests are treated with homemade chips and two types of salsa, green jalapeño and red Morita. The guacamole can be added separately and is legendary, according to customers.
“Everything was amazing, the sauces, chilis, it’s authentic Mexican. The place is clean and fresh. We’ll definitely be back,” said Maria, a customer, after enjoying her meal with her family.
This week’s specials include the Tortilla Soup, made of fried corn tortilla pieces, tomato broth, garlic, onion, and chile pasilla, and the Enchilada Suizas, cheesy shredded chicken enchiladas topped with a creamy tomatillo sauce.
For dessert, try the sweet cinnamony churros with caramel and chocolate sauce, or indulge in a traditional Mexican Horchata made of rice and cinnamon. For those who enjoy a fiesta, the Margarita is second to none.
In addition to running Taco Real, her family owns a traditional Mexican Ice Cream Shop, Rosa Ice Cream in Jupiter, offering dozens of unique handcrafted flavors.
The restaurants all offer catering and welcome school and work fundraisers.
