Teen Brawl Leads to Alleged Armed Burglary; Coral Springs Women Arrested

Two Coral Springs women were arrested after police say a teen fight escalated into an alleged armed burglary, with a group forcing its way into an occupied apartment while carrying a replica firearm.

According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Priscilla My Ngoc Vu, 29, of Coral Springs, and Julie Thi Nguyen, 39, of Coral Springs, were both charged with armed burglary of a dwelling with a dangerous weapon.

Records show that on July 31, officers responded to a residence after a 911 caller reported multiple people attempting to force their way into an apartment. While the victim was still on the phone with dispatchers, investigation records said the group broke through the locked front door, entered the home, and pointed what appeared to be a firearm, along with a silver wrench, and threatened the victims.

The arrest reports for Vu and Nguyen show police claim the confrontation stemmed from an earlier fight involving two juveniles. After the fight ended and both sides separated, investigators say one of the juveniles returned about an hour later accompanied by her mother, Nguyen, her mother’s girlfriend, Vu, and two friends identified in the report, but likely juveniles and thus not in the arrest system. For that reason, Coral Springs Talk will not identify them at this time.

According to the arrest affidavits, the group went to the third-floor apartment and began banging on the door. When the people inside refused to answer, one male allegedly kicked the front door, breaking it off its hinges.

Police said several members of the group then entered the apartment while one of the victims attempted to block them from moving farther inside.

Investigators said a woman who had been asleep inside the apartment woke up to the sound of the door being kicked in and saw the chaotic scene. After the group exited the residence, police said the same male revealed what the victims believed was a handgun.

Investigators later determined the firearm was a replica airsoft pistol with a light and laser attachment, but that it was used in the crime as if it were real and led to the victims fearing for their lives.

Detectives later detained the male at Burger King located at 10494 West Sample Road. During the interview, he allegedly admitted that he kicked in the door while carrying the replica gun.

The affidavit states the second suspected juvenile with the same last name had not been apprehended when the reports were completed.

Vu and Nguyen were both arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
