These days, when businesspeople are pulling up stakes and abandoning spacious storefronts and buildings for strictly online sales and business, one Coral Springs entrepreneur is taking the opposite path.
Nicole Cumberbatch, who lives in the Kenilworth community, is setting up shop in a large retail space in The Walk. Her business, The Motherhood Village, a family wellness center, will have its grand opening on Monday, April 7. Plans are being worked out to have a ribbon-cutting sometime in the future.
The new business is located at 2902 N. University Drive, the former site of WowMoms World. The Motherhood Village is the name of Cumberbatch’s popular podcast, which she started in 2019. “It started as a creative outlet,” she said.
The Motherhood Village will offer various services for mothers and children alike, including mommy-and-me classes, aftercare, a playhouse, children’s events, parenting classes, and support groups.
The name for her business, has its origins in an ancient African proverb, later popularized in a book authored by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, “It Takes a Village….”

Cumberbatch’s philosophy takes this a step further, caring for and nurturing moms as well as their kids. “Moms need something as well,” she said. “Not just the children.”
She expands upon the now world-famous adage, “It takes a village to raise a child, but most importantly, it takes a village to uplift a mom,” Cumberbatch said.
From podcast and a resource community for moms to a brick-and-mortar location, The Motherhood Village can now be described as a 4,952 sq ft. wellness resource and fun center for families with children newborn to age 13.
Motherhood and pregnancy can oftentimes be stressful for women. Many feel isolated, scared, and downright confused with a plethora of sometimes contradictory information and advice being offered.
“The biggest problem is the isolation and lack of support,” she said, “and the overwhelming amount of information they’re getting from social media.

“You don’t know where to go and whom to trust. Everyone’s an expert. That’s why communities like I built are so important. We’re kid-friendly and mom-focused.”
She said that compounding the problem here in South Florida is that many young – or expecting – moms live far apart from family and other sources of close support.
“A lot of moms just moved to Florida and don’t have a community.”
Events and support groups catering to working parents will be held at the new location. The Motherhood Village will offer moms and dads all different kinds of classes and workshops. Cumberbatch has connected with several providers to assist moms who might be struggling with various problems. “It can be anxiety or behavior issues,” she said, “or an early stage of depression that comes with a child.”
She will have family therapists, lactation specialists, OB-GYNs, and midwives available to support moms. Childbirth classes for moms and dads will also be offered. In addition, a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) room will be available for children six and older. Plus, she’s connected with area hospitals.
There is a membership option and a pay-per-class option for non-members. For more information, call 954-324-3203. To visit their website, click here.
