Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday announced the launch of a new toll discount program that will cut up to 25 percent off toll bills for certain drivers, including frequent users of the Sawgrass Expressway.
According to the governor, the “SunPass Savings” program will start Sept. 1 and run for six months, providing an estimated $38 million in relief to SunPass commuters. The savings will only be applied at toll facilities owned by the Florida Department of Transportation, including Florida’s Turnpike, the Sawgrass Expressway, Alligator Alley, I-95 Express lanes, I-75 Express lanes, and I-595 Express lanes.
Customers with at least 40 paid monthly transactions will receive a 20 percent credit to their SunPass account. Customers with 80 or more paid monthly transactions will receive a 25 percent monthly credit.
On average, customers using FDOT highways for their daily commute spend $50 a month on tolls. The new program would potentially save the average commuter $60 over six months, while commuters with more transactions would see additional savings.

DeSantis also called on the state legislature to expand the program and make it permanent.
“This program will help frequent SunPass customers keep more money in their pockets during a time of growing inflation,” DeSantis said. “Florida families who depend on these FDOT facilities for a timely commute to work will benefit from these savings. We will, of course, seek to enact greater savings for commuters in the next legislative session.”
The program applies to two-axle vehicles and is available to customers who use SunPass or other Florida transponders with accounts in good standing.
