Trader Joe’s might be opening up a Coral Springs location, according to a spokesperson with the company, but residents may not want to get their hopes up too soon.
In 2015, Coral Springs Talk took a poll to see if residents would like a Trader Joe’s in the city, and the response was overwhelming.
Residents who shop at Trader Joe’s rave about their low prices, their unique brands, and their excellent customer service. Some of their specialties include their Mandarin Orange Chicken, their Creamy Spinach & Artichoke Dip, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, and their Belgian Chocolate Pudding.
We directed fans of Trader Joe’s to fill out their online location request form, and for five years, we have been on a mission to get them to move to Coral Springs.
After all, driving to Davie or Boca Raton to shop at Trader Joes gets old.
In 2018, we created the Bring Trader Joe’s to Coral Springs Florida Facebook Page and encouraged over 800 followers who are fans of their delicious foods to let corporate know.
And they did.
However, the responses from Trader Joe’s were, “Sorry, we’re not planning a store in Coral Springs at this time….”
But Trader Joe’s fans relented and carried on. Even Vice Mayor Joy Carter made a plea for Trader Joe’s.
“The city doors are open!” She wrote.
Even though the decision to open in Coral Springs was a corporate decision, Carter said she would reach out to the Economic Development Department.
After five years, the requests — or should we say — begging may be paying off because the buzz from Barnes & Noble employees is that once the location closes at The Walk, Trader Joes is moving in.
We asked Amera Corporation, property owner of The Walk, for comment; however, the typically chatty folks are understandably tight-lipped because there are lease negotiations underway.
“Once we are in a position that we can share information about any new tenant for that building, I will absolutely let you know,” said Manager Gillian Johnson.
But the good news is Trader Joe’s has now confirmed they are coming to Coral Springs — somewhere.
Kenya Friend-Daniel, director of public relations for Trader Joe’s, said in an email on Thursday, “Yes, we are working to bring a Trader Joe’s location to Coral Springs. There’s not much else I can share at this time, as we are still early in the process/planning.”
With Barnes & Noble closing their doors on February 15, and Lucky’s Market closing on February 12, there are two reasonable possibilities for the store which typically only uses 15,000 sq feet of space.
Trader Joe’s has over 488 stores in 41 states and the District of Columbia. This includes locations in Boca Raton, Pembroke Pines, Davie, Wellington, and Fort Lauderdale. And soon, maybe, Coral Springs will be one of them.
