UFC fighter Luis Pena was arrested for robbery and other alleged crimes in Coral Springs Friday, records show.
The arrest of the 27-year-old mixed martial arts athlete — nicknamed “Violent Bob Ross” — came two days after he Tweeted about getting help for mental health issues.
Pena is charged with robbery by sudden snatching, battery, and criminal mischief, records show. He was being held without bail at the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail late Saturday.
Pena is being detained on an out-of-county hold from Palm Beach County, indicating his alleged crimes occurred there.
“People aren’t comfortable talking about this, but I have been going through serious mental health issues my entire life and have finally gained the strength to get and accept the help I’ve needed for a long time,” Pena posted on Twitter June 16. “If you’re struggling, take it from me. It’s okay to reach out.”
According to his official UFC biography, Pena, who hails from Naples, Italy, has been a professional MMA fighter since 2016. He debuted in the UFC Octagon in 2018 and has trained for fights in Coconut Creek.
Before fighting, he worked in the back of a restaurant and served as an assistant coach for his high school wrestling team, according to his biography.
He fights in UFC’s lightweight division and has a record of nine wins and three losses.
Additional information about his arrest was not immediately available.
