A Coral Springs woman was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking her boyfriend in a fit of rage that involved racial slurs and a knife.
According to the Coral Springs Police Department, at approximately 1:30 a.m. on May 21, they received reports of a female chasing a male with a knife at a residence located near the 1200 block of Northwest 89th Drive.
Records show officers were informed that the victim had fled to the Mobile Gas station at 1351 North University Drive for safety. Officers made contact with the victim, who provided a detailed account of what he alleged was a knife attack by his significant other, later identified as Darlene Sirn, 33, of Coral Springs.
According to the victim, he and Sirn had been drinking earlier and had just gone to bed when the situation spiraled out of control. Sirn reportedly went upstairs to retrieve her son’s phone and returned with a photo of her ex-boyfriend.
The victim indicated the photo was her way of telling him he was “just like her ex” and that she began verbally assaulting him while comparing him to her ex and declaring that he was worthless, according to the police report.
The verbal tirade quickly turned physical as Sirn began punching the victim in the face with a closed fist, all while yelling racially charged insults, stating that she hated white people and that his children were white and she hated them, according to the report.
The victim told officers he attempted to defend himself, eventually grabbing Sirn’s arms to stop the assault. However, he recounted how Sirn broke free, entered the kitchen, and returned with a 14-inch Cuisine Art kitchen knife.
She then chased the victim through various rooms in the house, slashing at the bedroom curtains when she couldn’t reach him.
Police reports indicate the victim managed to kick the knife under the bed when Sirn stumbled and dropped it. Enraged, she overturned the kitchen table and threw chairs around, causing significant damage.
When officers arrived, they found the downstairs area of the house in disarray, with broken glass from an alcohol bottle and slashed curtains. Sirn, who was highly intoxicated, initially claimed not to remember the events but later gave inconsistent statements.
Records show officers found her in her car with the engine running, despite claiming the victim tried to stop her from leaving.
The victim displayed visible injuries, including bruises and swelling on the left side of his face, consistent with being punched.
Sirn was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
