Coral Springs High School may fly under the radar with powerhouses like Marjory Stoneman Douglas down the road. Still, they continue to produce college-bound athletes with Ruben Zuany and Andrew Allison.
Zuany is set to attend Bethune Cookman University following his senior season and says it is a big step into his future.
“Being able to commit is such an accomplishment for me,” Zuany said. “It’s such an amazing feeling, and I am very excited to play D1 baseball at Bethune-Cookman. I couldn’t be more thankful for my family and my coaches, who have sacrificed so much for me.”
Zuany began playing baseball when he was three and has competed for Barwis, Canes, Tornadoes, Rebels, and Coral Springs High School. This past season, he hit .328 with a home run and 13 RBIs while the team went 13-10.
“Ruben is just a special talent that will make an instant impact on day one on campus,” Head Coach John Brown said. “Coach Hernandez is getting a really complete player.”
Zuany was intrigued by Bethune-Cookman after meeting with the coaching staff. He also felt comfortable with the location and wanted an opportunity to play at the next level.
Before college, Zuany hopes to improve his throwing velocity, speed, and strength. He will play for a team that won 33 games a season ago and has been to the NCAA tournament 12 times.
Allison will be attending Miles College in Alabama.
“One of the best feelings in the world was to commit and to finally make my dreams into reality,” Allison said. “It’s a great feeling.”
Allison began playing baseball when he was four and competed with many of his teammates now at North Springs. After starting his varsity career at Coral Glades and helping the Jaguars win 11 games before transferring to CSHS.
“Andrew is a player with unmatched potential, and he can have a huge role for Coach Barney and that program,” Brown added. “As he grows in his new leadership role, he will add to his list of attributes going forward.”
Allison felt comfortable with the atmosphere, academics, and facilities and hopes to improve his mindset before playing for a school that won 22 games last year. The Colts will be opening on February 22 against Somerset Academy.
