It was an incredible performance from both the Coral Springs High School boys and girls cross country teams, with both finishing in second place on September 8th.
The Colts competed against Dillard, McArthur, Monarch, and Charles. W Flanagan High School at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach.
Head Coach Brantley Barr has a relatively new team on the boy’s side consisting of mostly freshmen. The girls are a bit more experienced with four seniors as well as some underclassmen.
“We are working hard, and I expect us to be very improved by the time districts roll around,” said Coach Barr, who is in his 42 second year coaching at CSHS after graduating in 1979.
For the boys, Jeffrey Belizaire finished first individually with a time of 19:15:60. Lucas Penaloza also came in the top ten at 21:44.10.
David Lafleche and Christopher Belfort each finished within a minute of each other and placed in 14th and 17th, respectively, while Christopher Thuo ran a solid race to place within the top 25.
The girls had their top performance come from Angelica Macarulay, who came in eighth place overall. Lea Ramnarace ran well to make the top ten while Julia Fendell finished in 13th and Hannah Bazan placed in 15th.
The Colts had two other runners complete in Bergyne Darang and Mariana Dos Santos. They each finished within the top 20, helping CSHS come in second place.
Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday, September 14 at Tradewinds Park.
