Local Baseball Team Collects Donations For Victims of Hurricane Ida

A local baseball league is focusing its efforts on helping others who are in need.

Broward Elite Baseball, comprised of children ranging from 9 to 12-years-old from the Coral Springs and Coconut Creek areas, is collecting items for victims of Hurricane Ida.

“Baseball is important, but it is also about helping our community, whether they are here or somewhere else,” said Noelle Gonzelez, whose son, Jacob, plays on the 10U team.

Noelle, a Broward County teacher, was raised in Miami and lived through Hurricane Andrew, which gave her the initiative to start the drive.

“I knew the biggest thing was to get them supplies as quickly as possible,” she said.

The teams are collecting baby wipes, diapers, baby food, canned meats, tuna, peanut butter, tomato sauce, water, macaroni and cheese, rice, dry and canned beans, other non-perishable foods and gently used clothes at their team practices.
