For the first time in school history, the J.P. Taravella boys cross country team won the City Championship.
Held at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek on Tuesday, the race featured three Trojans finishing in the top five.
Tanaris Jean Pierre had the best time for JPT and finished second, Tyler James in third, and Dangelo Bridges in fifth, Marcos Noriega in eighth, and Jaylen Amoa place in 18th.
For Arnold Hopkins, the team’s cross country coach, the win meant was remarkable for the team and its seniors who worked so hard.
“My top three, who are all seniors, said they are going to win this for me, but I told them to win it for themselves,” he said. “It was the biggest win in their high-school career. Everybody ran well and did their part. I’m just proud of my boys, and we have more races to come and get better.”
Next, JPT will be in action on Tuesday, September 28, when the Trojans race at Markham Park in Sunrise.
