Matt Rubin of JPT Baseball Joins a Pair of Teammates in College

Matt Rubin of J.P. Taravella High School adds to the long list of upcoming seniors on the varsity baseball team to commit to playing college baseball.

Rubin is set to attend Indian State River College in Fort Pierce next fall, where he will be joining teammates Vincent Samuel and Jassiel Valbuena, who committed earlier this year.

“It’s a major relief to finally commit,” said Rubin. “When you see all the people around you committing, you start to worry if the opportunity will ever come to you. I am grateful that it finally did, and I am happy with the school it was.”

He has been on the varsity team since he was a freshman. Before the 2020 season getting postponed due to COVID-19, Rubin recorded four hits in nine at-bats.

Then as a junior, he had his best season, hitting .388 with 12 RBI’s and 25 runs. He also added a pair of doubles helping the JPT reach Regionals.

He says a large part of his success goes to his coaches Joe Giummule, Brandon Cooney, and John Brown, along with his family for all the sacrifices they made along the way.

Rubin began playing baseball at four years old with his brother Logan, then went on to play for Tamarac Little League.

After his senior season, he joins a program that went 22-18-1 (11-10) in 2021 during their run into the FCSAA State/NJCAA Region 8 Gulf District Baseball Championship.
