St. Andrew Catholic Church is hosting its annual Thanksgiving dinner in honor of one of the original organizers for the event, Ray Herman.
Herman was director emeritus, a long-time member, and one of the original organizers of the event who passed away in 2020. The dinner idea began 17 years ago with former Pastor Monsignor George Puthusseril approaching the St. Andrew Men’s Club. He wanted to create an event for those who didn’t have a place to go for Thanksgiving.
Due to COVID-19, the meals are takeout only; in-person pickup or drive up at the St. Andrew Social Hall. Volunteers are handing out 1,200 takeout dinners, plus 200 additional meals delivered to the residents of St. Andrew Towers.
Meal tickets are available at no cost at the St. Andrew Parish Office beginning Nov 8.
Those with a ticket may pick up their meals on Thanksgiving Day from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in front of the Parish Hall at 9950 NW 29th St, in Coral Springs.
“It’s wonderful to see how many volunteers go out of their way on this special day to buy, cook and prepare all these meals,” said past president Tim Scanlon. “I’m so proud of our parish community coming together to make sure our guests have a hearty Thanksgiving meal.”
