Coral Springs Charter softball is back after opening their regular season with an impressive 7-1 win over Pompano Beach High School.
Senior Brianna Godfrey once again led the way, pitching a complete game and allowing only one run. She struck out 13 batters and had one of the team’s seven hits.
“Bri did what she usually does in the circle,” said Head Coach Mark Montimurro. “Attacks opponents with velocity and an arsenal of four to five elite pitches.”
Stephanie Basso knocked in two runs at the plate while Stina D’Agostino and Isabella Bertorelli had one. Addison Michel, Taylor Golden, and Alivia Tabil each had a hit and scored a run.
“Pompano is a solid team,” Coach Mark Montimurro added. “Very good pitching depth, and top to bottom, a really stellar lineup.”
In the preseason, the Panthers, who had their year run of State Championships end in Regionals in 2021, defeated the reigning State Champions Doral Academy 9-1 as Kate Maston homered in the win.
Next, the Panthers will play their second game against St. Thomas Aquinas High School on Friday, February 25, at 6 p.m. Last year, the Raiders lost 11-2 to the Panthers and had seven wins in 20 games.
