2 Coral Springs Charter Students Receive Military Academy Nominations from Rep. Ted Deutch

Coral Springs Charter seniors Collin Teschky and Alana Browne received a congressional nomination to military academies — required for enrollment.

Teschky received his nomination for the United States Military Academy, while Browne received hers from the U.S. Naval and U.S. Air Force Academy.

Both students believed they were attending a meet and greet with Rep. Ted Deutch on Saturday but instead, he presented them with their nominations. Each representative is permitted to have up to five of their nominees attend each academy simultaneously.

“It was a big step forward in the application process and was a big relief to receive the nomination because, without it, you cannot get accepted into a service academy,” said Teschky.

Not only does Teschky want to attend the United States Military Academy, but he hopes to play college football there. Now in his fourth year on the Coral Springs Charter varsity football team, Teschky has 450 receiving yards and has scored eight touchdowns, including three this year.

Browne became interested in joining the military after her grandfather, Nicolas Browne, served 37 years in the Canadian Military. After applying for a nomination, Browne had to fill out an application and attend an interview before only a handful of nominations were given to each district.

“It means I am just one step closer to my dreams of attending a service academy and serving as an officer in the United States Military, said Browne. “I am happy that my hard work these past couple of months has paid off and excited to see where the rest of this application process takes me.”
