Coral Glades’ new soccer coaches, Marc Lyon and Giovanni Bido, each picked up their first win. Lyon picked his win up coaching the boys’ varsity soccer team while Bido earned his with the girls’.
The boys’ team is coming off a year where they won only four games in the regular season but reached the District Final. Despite dropping their first game of the year to Western High School and settling for a 2-2 draw against Cooper City High School, the Jaguars beat Coral Springs High School 2-0 to give Lyon his first career win on Tuesday.
An original member of the first varsity soccer team in 2004, Lyons said this was a special one.
“It means a lot to get my first win at Glades, but more importantly, to get off to a winning start in the district,” said Lyon. “The boys and I have set lofty district goals this season, and we want to hold true to that. “
Sameer Marshall scored a pair of goals against the Colts and has three this year after scoring one against Cooper City. Nicholas Acevedo also had one in that game, while goaltender Simon Utrera recorded his first shutout of the season in his third game.
The Jaguars then played a terrific game on Thursday against Monarch High School and picked up a point with a 0-0 draw. With Utrera having to come out after picking up a yellow card, Zidaan Williams came in and shined, stopping a penalty kick.
The Knights previously beat Marjory Stoneman Douglas this year and were the top team in the District until today. Coral Glades now heads into the holiday break in a tie for first place.
Teammates include Jose De La Torre, Alvaro Franco, Logan Mir, Santiago Sanchez, Sebastian Sanchez, Sebastiaan Espinosa, Dane Pryce, Daniel Matza, Jayden Hernandez, Kendry Villafuerte, Kevin Acosta, Jonathan Herrera, David Jimenez, Ian Lemus, Felipe Tejada, Jordan Alvarez, Youssef Salah El Din, Josmel Herrera, Gabriel Marrero, David Phoneix, James Araujo, Bryan Camacho, Matthew Tabares, Damien Maraj, Zidaan Williams, Kyler Hewitt, Diego Vasquez, Kianush Tehrani, Marco Mendez, and Darius Edwards.

The girls’ soccer team reached the District Final last year and defeated Monarch High School for Bido’s first win with Coral Glades.
Giovanni Bido spent much time in the Coral Springs area, coaching youth soccer. He also coached futsal, which is indoor soccer, during the offseason before picking up his first win as head coach on Thursday.
“It was a good win for us.,” said Bido. “I would like to have had it come in our last game against Coral Springs, but I thought we played well and was happy we were able to get a victory today.”
The team came into the game with two losses and a tie against CSHS. They beat Monarch High School 6-0, with Kylee Boyd scoring four goals. Leilani De Ivalle and Olivia Menard also had goals, while Samantha Menard and Yasmine Centeno recorded goals earlier this year.
Team members also include Asaciah Tyler, Jessica Garvey, Sabrina Santucci, Aryanna Marin, Alissa Defelice, Sivar Benton, Trinity Ferguson, Nina Blatz, Tatiana Merino, Kaitty Harter, Briana Brown, Emily Sepulveda, Gabrielle Paulin, Catalyna Paz, Isabella Funtalve, Gina Bido, Lily Bido, Amelie Donahue, Sara De Olivera, and Teya Stapleton.
Both teams return for a huge matchup against Marjory Stoneman Douglas on Nov. 28. Kickoff for the girls’ game is 4 p.m., with the boys at 7 p.m.
