For a third straight season, the Coral Glades girls soccer team is on their way to the District Championship.
The Jaguars will play Marjory Stoneman Douglas again after defeating Coral Springs High School 5-1 Thursday night. Coral Glades won only six games during the regular season but picked up their seventh when it mattered the most.
Teya Stapelton scored a pair of goals. Also, Victoria Fuentes and Lily Bido had one. Stapelton recorded two assists, while Mina Kendall, Emily Sepulveda, and Leilani Del Valle picked up one.
“It was a great team victory, but we know the job is not complete,” said Head Coach Richard Denny. “We have a good match coming our way, and we will be ready.”
This was also a special matchup between Fuentes of Coral Glades and Hannah Shay of CSHS. These two captains of their team started their soccer careers at Coral Springs Youth Soccer. They became friends and teammates at Coral Springs United before becoming foes while attending their respective high schools. While Shay suffered an injury Thursday night, Fuentes was there to help her off the field.
Next, they will play the Eagles on Monday, January 31, at 4 p.m. The Eagles have outscored the Jaguars 9-0 in the past two championship games and won 4-0 during their matchup. They also have a record of 11-1-3 this year and are one of the top teams in Broward County.
“Each game between us has been increasingly competitive, and playing with something on the line always adds to the fun,” Coach Denny added. “We’re looking forward to the game on Monday.”
