Manahil Khalil loves color guard and genuinely cares for her teammates.
As captain of the Coral Springs Charter color guard, Khalil must motivate and lead the team, which she does with care and consideration.
“Our team is a tight-knit group, and we have bonded over the years. It takes much patience to be the color guard captain, but I try to make it fun for the team,” said Kahlil.
Last year, Kahlil, a 17-year-old senior, served as a co-captain of the team and earned the respect of her teammates.
“Being in color guard is fun. We participate in various dances and perform at football games and competitions. It takes a lot of determination to do well in color guard,” said Khalil.
Band director David Cardona has been very impressed with Kahlil’s work ethic and leadership. “She is very humble and has a soft approach leading her teammates. She encourages people to do their best,” he said.
A strong student, Khalil has a 4.3 grade point average and is a member of the National Honor Society for Science. She enjoys studying biology and hopes to attend the University of Florida or Florida International University to pursue a career in the field of medicine.
