As businesses all over the county are still in financial turmoil due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a new grant gives some of the most vulnerable small businesses and non-profit organizations a chance to survive.

Broward County plans to launch its Small Business CARES GRANT in early November. Before the portal opens, they’re offering technical assistance to small businesses and non-profit organizations seeking to apply for the grant.

This window of technical assistance could allow businesses to prepare adequately before the applications open.

The one-time grant will aid small businesses or non-profits that employ 20 employees or fewer.

There are currently $25 million in grants available, used to reimburse the costs of business interruptions and expenses caused by required closures and operating restrictions.

Depending on the number of employees, eligible businesses may receive between $5,000 and $15,000.

For more eligibility information, uses, and application requirements, visit their website.

Technical assistance, which begins on November 4, offers businesses four technical assistance levels for free—expedited assistance, basic assistance, standard assistance, and comprehensive assistance, taking between 15 minutes for the shortest option and 90 minutes for the longest.

There, the county can assist potential applicants in confirming eligibility, confirming which supporting documents they need, direction on necessary forms, and where to get them, as well as a summary of additional emergency funding programs that they may be eligible for.

The assistance will be done through web conferencing and can be scheduled virtually on their website. The current time window to schedule technical assistance runs through Friday, November 13, excluding Sunday, November 8, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. To schedule a technical assistance appointment, visit their website.
