Big Lots in Coral Springs could soon permanently close its doors.
The discount retailer at 725 N. University Dr. in Coral Square Promenade is among the chain’s hundreds of locations holding going-out-of-business sales, Big Lots said last week.
The Columbus, Ohio-based company filed for bankruptcy in September. At the time, it operated over 1,300 stores across the U.S., more than 400 of which have since closed, company officials said.
CEO Bruce Thorn said the permanent store closures are not a sure thing and that the going-out-of-business plan could be reversed if Big Lots is sold to new owners.
“We all have worked extremely hard and have taken every step to complete a going concern sale,” Thorn said in a press release. “While we remain hopeful that we can close an alternative going concern transaction, in order to protect the value of the Big Lots estate, we have made the difficult decision to begin the GOB process.”
The company employs more than 30,000 store associates nationwide.
