Broward Health is reporting a steady increase in COVID-19 cases linked to a new variant known as “Stratus,” though officials say there is no cause for alarm.
According to data released by the hospital system, the number of positive COVID specimens taken from patients they treated rose from 212 in June to 352 in July. During the first week of August, 59 positive cases have been reported.
Most of the recent cases have not required hospitalization. Patients are typically being treated and released from emergency departments across Broward Health, with only a few admitted for more serious symptoms, officials said.
While health officials note that last August saw a similar uptick in cases, the current trend appears more gradual.
“There has been a steady number of positive specimens, which is nothing alarming,” a Broward Health spokesperson said in a statement.
