Coral Springs Charter School won first place, and the Coral Springs High School bowling team earned fourth place in the girls’ division at the Broward County Athletic Association championship meet.
Coral Springs Charter, South Plantation, Cooper City and Coral Springs were the top finishers in the girls’ competition.
The teams competed in a Baker game format with teams of five members. Everyone bowled two frames for a total game of ten frames. The teams participated in two ten-game blocks of qualifying rounds, and the top four teams were qualified for the finals, according to Gary Hofer with Broward County High School Bowling.
J.P. Taravella earned third place, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas earned fourth in the boys’ division. The two teams competed in the finals on October 7 at the SpareZ bowling center in Davie.
According to Mike Gregory, Marjory Stoneman Douglas coach, Luke Munson, Jonathan Rios, Bryce Gregory, and Vincent Ciullo performed well for the Eagles. Zachary Kimbrell and Chyanne Vanwinkle, a girl who competed on the boys’ team, were successful for the Trojans.
Gregory said Faith Tucker and Audrey Gold were top competitors for Coral Springs Charter.
“Douglas had good matches before the finals, but we missed some spares and earned fourth place,” said Gregory.
The Coral Glades boys’ and girls’ teams came in fifth place. Coach Anthony Catalano said his team is improving and that his sons, Anthony and Lane Brainard, are good bowlers in the boys’ division. Crystal Carrars and Kylee Boyd had good games in the girls’ division.
Coral Springs girls’ coach Berta Reed was proud of the team and said Liana Tuillen, Kiara Hampton, and Tikayla Pierre had top games. “They earned fourth place because they practiced and wanted to get better,’ she said.
The Coral Springs High School boys’ earned a ninth-place finish, and coach Steve Rocke said Logan Howe was the top bowler. “We had an average performance, but we can get better,” he said.
The Coral Spring Charter boys’ team earned a sixth-place finish.
McArthur, Western, J.P. Taravella, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas were the top finishers in the boys’ competition.
The teams are preparing for the upcoming district competition in Boca Raton on October 21.
