Coral Springs Charter softball continued their historic start to the season with two wins in the Orange Bowl Classic on Saturday at Palmetto Bay Park.
The Panthers beat Fort Myers and Immokalee High School by a combined score of 17-0 while settling for 1-1 ties against Doral Academy and Evangelical Christian High School to move to 10-0-2 this year.
“Fair weekend for the group as a whole,” said Head Coach Mark Montimurro. “Pitching was sensational as always, but our offensive approach and execution have a long way to go.”
Courtney Wahlbrink picked up the win in both CSC’s victories, while Sophia Bertorelli also continued her incredible season. The two pitchers combined to throw 28 innings, allowing only one earned run, four hits, and striking out 37 hitters.
Stephanie Basso led the team with six RBIs in the four games, while Bella Bertorelli drove in five. Kate Maston hit her fourth homer this season and drove in four runs, along with Sophia Bortellia and Heather Robinson combining to drive in five. Olivia Taibl and Kianna Gutirez also knocked in runs.
The Panthers will have a week off before facing Pompano beach high School in their next game on Monday, March 27. The Golden Knights are 3-9 this year but feature one of the top pitchers in the District, Sammy Murphy. CSC won 7-1 in the only meeting last year.
