The Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department has cooked up an event dedicated to helping the community prevent kitchen mishaps.

The Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department will host a Fire Prevention Week Kick-Off Event on Saturday, October 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., planned as an exciting day filled with activities and educational demonstrations, all centered around the theme of ‘Cooking Safety.’

The event, which will take place at Coral Square Mall just outside the North food court entrance located at 9469 W Atlantic Boulevard, is the city’s part of an annual nationwide initiative aiming to educate the public about fire safety and prevention.

Attendees can expect the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department to provide educational demonstrations on preventing cooking-related fires, among the leading causes of house fires.

As part of the demonstration portion of the event and in advance of Thanksgiving, local officials will provide a demonstration on how to deep-fry holiday birds safely.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore Sparky’s Safety Trailer, a mobile fire safety education unit designed to educate children and adults on fire prevention in a fun and interactive way.

For those looking to get hands-on, there will be a Fire Extinguisher Prop station where participants can learn how to use a fire extinguisher to control small fires properly. The event will also feature informative sessions, interactive games, and a chance to engage with local firefighters and first responders.
