After falling by one point in their season-opener, the Coral Springs High School boys basketball team has rebounded, winning three straight games.
They defeated Monarch by 19 points on December 1 before beating Dwyer 62-53 in the Kruel Classic. Last year, the Colts fell to Dwyer in the Regional Final but got their revenge with Greg Spate leading the way with 23 points, eight rebounds, and three steals while Jonathan Fils, Allen Mathieu, and Jordan Carmona were all in double figures.
Beating a team the caliber of Dwyer who eliminated us in the regional finals last season is big for our confidence,” said Head Coach Devin Barta. “They are extremely well-coached, and we had to play very well to beat them.”
CSHS followed that up with a strong win on the road against Blanche Ely High School 65-57. Spate led the team once again with 16 points. Carmona and Matthieu combined to score 25 points, while Stevenson Borgella recorded seven rebounds.
“Going on the road to Blanche Ely and winning in their gym is no easy task,” Coach Barta added. “These games have been a great test for our team early in the season, and I believe they will only prepare us for the future.”
The Colts, who are now 3-1, will next be in action on the road on Friday, December 10, against South Plantation High School at 7:30 p.m. The Paladins come in with a record of 2-4.
