The City of Coral Springs honored the men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces on Sunday in their annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony.
This year’s keynote speaker featured Colonel Mary Martin (ret.) from the U.S. Air Force. A Major in the US Army Reserve in 1981, between 1984 and 1985, Major Martin served with the 349 Combat Support Hospital as the chief nurse. In 1985, Major Martin transferred to the United States Air Force Nurse Corps. Her wartime experience includes Desert Storm, as well and she was a personal eyewitness to the attack on the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 where she was in the parking lot of the Pentagon and watched the plane fly into the building.
The ceremony included a Presentation of the Colors by the Coral Springs Cadet Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, Pledge of Allegiance and welcome led by Ron Stancavage, President of the Veterans Coalition and the National Anthem performed by Gianna and Natalia Conti.
Introduction to the city commissioners was led by Mayor Pro Tempore Lou Cimaglia, and the benediction by Pastor Ray Wehrenberg with the First Church of Coral Springs.
