
Coral Springs Charter Softball. {CSC Softball}
Softball season is in full swing, featuring a rivalry matchup, the coaches’ first win, and one of the top teams in the state.
J.P. Taravella tossed a no-hitter against Coral Springs High School on Tuesday behind Adrianna Mose. This was the Trojans’ second win of the season, as they previously beat Charles W. Flanagan High School 15-1 in their second game and also won 18-0 over Deerfield Beach High School on Thursday. Their losses came against Cypress Bay, Pembroke Pines Charter, and Fort Lauderdale High School. Next, they will pay Plantation High School on Monday, March 10, at 4 p.m.
The Colts, though, had their first win of the season against Deerfield Beach High School after scoring a season-high 23 runs. CSHS will play Plantation High School in their next game on Tuesday, March 11, at 5:30 p.m.
Coral Glades opened a new softball team under Coach Amanda Gomes. She recorded her first win with her new team in their fourth game against South Plantation High School. After losing their first three, the Jaguars won 6-2 behind a four-night from Brianna Escobar. Dilynn Douge also had an RBI, while Addison Schwartzberg tossed a competitive game and allowed only one earned run with five strikeouts.
Escobar drove in five in their successive win against Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School in a 13-3 win. Cameron Marques added three RBIs, along with Danielle Gaines, Schwartzberg, and Douge. Coral Glades lost two tight games against Marjory Stoneman Douglas and Monarch High School. The Jaguars will play Pembroke Pines Charter in their next game on Monday, March 10, at 5:30 p.m.
Coral Springs Charter improved to 4-1 this year following Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Coral Reef High School. Sophia Bertorelli tossed the first five innings, while Courtney Wahlbrink closed it out to hand Coral Reef High School, the 18th-ranked team in the state, their first loss.
The Panthers then defeated North Myers High School, the 26th-ranked team in the state, 5-1 on Saturday.
Addi Michel had two of the team’s three hits and an RBI. Bree Martinelli scored the only run, and Wahlbrink also received a hit. The Panthers will continue their demanding schedule with a game on Saturday, March 8, at noon against North Fort Myers High School.
