Sophia Lacroix creates paintings depicting life in Haiti, reflecting her passion for art and her homeland.
She is a leader of the Haitian Women Fine Art Collective, a group of women from Haiti who love to express their feelings for the nation through art. The group is currently presenting their work at the Coral Springs Museum of Art to honor Haitian Heritage Month with their Continuum: Heritage & Expression exhibit.
Lacroix said, “One of my paintings of a marketplace depicts daily life in Haiti.”
Another featured artist, Dominik Ambroise, is displaying an abstract painting. She explained, “My work shows the unyielding spirit and resilience of the Haitian people.”
On May 7, the Collective opened the exhibit with a celebration attended by Mayor Scott Brook, commission members, and city leaders. The event also honored the late commissioner Nancy Metayer, with her mother, Marly Metayer, present.
