Protesters will gather in Coral Springs on Thursday as part of a nationwide day of action to protest President Donald Trump’s administration and honor the legacy of Congressman John Lewis.
The Coral Springs demonstration is scheduled for Thursday, July 17, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of University Drive and West Sample Road.
Speakers will include Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen, according to a press release announcing the local demonstration. Speakers will address the crowd starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Northwest Regional Library, 3151 N. University Dr.
The Coral Springs protest is part of “Good Trouble Lives On” — a nationwide day of what organizers say will be “peaceful, nonviolent action rooted in the legacy of the civil rights movement and inspired by civil rights titan and congressman John Lewis’ call to make ‘good trouble, necessary trouble,’” according to the press release.
Thursday marks the fifth anniversary of Lewis’s passing, organizers said, and over 1,000 events are planned nationwide.
According to the press release, the local event is co-hosted by Joyful Resistance Indivisible, Hope and Action Indivisible, Showing Up for Racial Justice, 50501 South Florida, and Truth Matters.
According to the press release: “Participants will gather to demand an end to the authoritarian attacks on our freedom to vote, protest, and organize — and to stand united against efforts to criminalize our communities, roll back our rights, and slash vital public programs.”
