Joe McHugh
In a close race decided by just a few percentage points, Coral Springs voters chose a new commissioner for Seat 5 after Joe McHugh defeated Jose Morera with 51 percent of the vote.
“I feel good about winning and want to make Coral Springs a better city. I thank the residents who voted for me. I will be the voice and the ears for the city,” said McHugh.

McHugh was hired by the city as a road patrol officer in 1996. He was selected to the department’s traffic unit in 2001 and promoted to sergeant in 2005. In 2007, he was transferred to the training unit and chosen as the department’s public information officer. In 2010, he was promoted to lieutenant.
In an interview with Coral Springs Talk, McHugh said he will retire from the police force later this year.
