Sushi Sake is one of South Florida’s fastest-growing local sushi chains, steadily expanding from its Miami roots into Broward and Palm Beach with locations across neighborhoods ranging from Kendall to Boca Raton.
Although the Coral Springs location doesn’t reinvent the wheel, the food is fantastic, the prices are reasonable, and the location is pristine.
The interior is tastefully remodeled, sleek and elegant, with lounge-type upholstery and lighting. Even the cutlery, sleek obsidian plates, and stone bowls give an authentic Japanese feel. The cocktails are classy and refreshing, with a nice selection of sakes and imported Japanese beers.
We started with the Yukke ($15), a wonderful blend of raw minced meat with a touch of spicy kimchi sauce, scallions, sesame seeds, and slices of fresh avocado to cut through it all. We love a good steak tartare, so this would be the Japanese appetizer equivalent.
The TNT roll ($14) was phenomenal. Tiny chunks of cooked eel, krabstick, avocado, cucumber, and cream cheese slathered in spicy mayo and eel sauce, then coated in masago and sesame seeds. It’s delightful with an array of textures very thoughtfully layered in. My wife ordered a side of Ikura ($12) for a punchy burst of salty freshness.

Hibachi Steak Teppanyaki
My main entree was the Hibachi Steak Teppanyaki ($32). Wow, was this a lot of food. The fried rice was a volcanic pile itself, not to mention the sliced mushrooms and veggies. The miso soup was finely strained and superior in many ways to most other similar broths we’ve tried. The ginger dressing on the side salad was more than adequate as well. I’m a sucker for a good yum yum sauce and prefer to pour strips on every part of my plate, including the very tender steaks. I try to find bottles of Yum Yum Sauce at the market to take home any leftovers. This was a touch sweeter than most but still excellent.
The menu spans many classics we didn’t get to try this time: gyozas (highly praised online), tempura for every meat, including squid, assorted fried rices, a myriad of sushi and sashimi, and the aforementioned Hibachi.
The only complaints we had were service-related. This location has been open for under a year. They are under new management as of three months ago, and there were huge disconnects with what was on the menu, drink-wise, and food-wise, compared to what was actually available. Our poor server was trying her best, but there was a lot she had to run to the back and figure out if they had what we ordered.

Sushi Sake restaurant.
Does Sushi Sake provide a unique dining experience with menu items not found elsewhere? Not really. The concept clearly targets a broad audience rather than purists, balancing approachable rolls like Dragon, Crunchy, and California with raw bar staples, sashimi, and cooked hibachi plates. But between the quality of the ingredients, the simple ideas and techniques that let those ingredients shine, and the upscale feeling of the location, this was definitely a memorable meal for an oversaturated market.
